Dozens Injured in German Cinema Shooting

A masked man opened fire at a German cinema complex in the western town of Viernheim near Frankfurt, wounding several people.

A man with a gun and ammunition barricaded himself inside Kinopolis movie theater and started to shoot, injuring between 20 and 50 people, according to local media.

A German police spokesperson only confirmed that the situation was threatening, but did not give any further details.

Another spokesperson for police in the nearby city of Mannheim, said the police force was not directly involved in the Viernheim incident, but had sent officers to support their colleagues in the town.

Local newspapers have cited the interior minister as saying the gunman was shot dead.
